Beaches Negril Villages Guide: Calypso Cove, Island Village, and Reggaeville

Which Village Is Right for Your Family?

After deciding to book Beaches Negril, we find that clients care deeply about the room level (luxury vs. concierge vs. butler elite) but sometimes forget how much the village location affects their vacation experience. While that is a critical part of the final decision, its important to know where the rooms are located so you know how far you’ll walk to the waterpark each morning or whether your kids can get back to the room by themselves. Do you want to wake up to the gentle sounds of the waves on the famous Seven Mile Beach, be close to the pool, or stay in the quietest section of the resort or most central one?

As a family, we’ve stayed at Beaches Negril nine times, and as Sandals Chairman’s Royal Club Diamond Elite travel experts, we have placed over 2,800 families at Sandals and Beaches properties. The question we’re often asked before confirming a new booking isn’t always just about the room, but about the village.

Here’s how we answer it.

Table of Contents - Beaches Negril Villages Guide

The Three Villages at Beaches Negril

Beaches Negril has three villages: Calypso Cove on the eastern end, Reggaeville in the center, and Island Village on the western end closest to Pirates Island Waterpark and Camp Sesame. Each section shares the same beach, restaurants, pools, and resort access. One thing worth knowing before we cover each village: there are no elevators in the Reggaeville, Island Village, or standard Calypso Cove buildings. The only exception is the Eventide Villa building in Calypso Cove. If anyone in your family needs ground-level room access, the walkout rooms in Reggaeville and Island Village will be our top recommendation, as they are most central to the resort amenities and require no stairs.

For a more detailed overview, we’ve created an interactive Beaches Negril Resort Map so you know exactly where everything is located.

Calypso Cove at Beaches Negril

Calypso Cove is the easternmost and quietest part of Beaches Negril. The Montpelier buildings are located here, along with the Eventide Penthouse Collection, which are the resort’s newest accommodations, all of which include Butler Elite services. This part of the resort is closest to The Mill buffet, which is our favorite place for breakfast.

The beach is great here, too, as you’ll find this is where it’s a bit more relaxed. If you’re booked in an Eventide suite, you’re going to have the best beach views and will always be just steps away from Seven Mile Beach. That said, Calypso Cove doesn’t have its own dedicated pool so the closest one would be the main pool which is just acouple minutes walk from any of the buildings on the Calypso Cove Village. It’s also the furthest section from Pirates Island Waterpark. For our clients and families where the beach experience is what you’re looking after you’ll love this side but for families where the waterpark is key and you want the best proximity to the kids camp, Calypso Cove might not be the best option, so we’d recommend something in Reggaeville.

Something important to note here… Beaches Negril holds IBCCES certification for autism and sensory sensitivities, so for families with children who have autism or sensory sensitivities, we think you’ll appreciate Calypso Cove the most as there is reduced foot traffic and a quieter atmosphere. If this applies to your family, let us know and we’ll talk over all options.

Reggaeville at Beaches Negril

Reggaeville is the most central part of Beaches Negril and is the one we most often recommend for families who want to be close to the action. The Savannah buildings are located near the main pools, the lobby, most of the restaurants, and the resort’s lazy river. We’ve stayed in this section and for our kids find it the best place for us. There is a playground for them to enjoy while we’re getting ready for dinner; you’re steps away from the waterpark; and for those late-night snacks, you’ll find FroYo’s frozen yogurt.

The ground-floor Savannah walkout rooms are where the butler-level W3BG, W2BG, and WBS suites are located, each with great on-resort positioning, ground-level access, and a short walk to everything. For clients with a daily routine that starts with the pool in the morning, the waterpark in the afternoon, and restaurants in the evening, Reggaeville is the place to be.

One travel tip we share with families booking at any village: if you’re in a concierge level room, consider using the savings from not booking a butler suite to reserve a beachfront daybed with beach butler service for the day. At $150 for 9/10am to 4pm, your butler takes drink and lunch orders, and your family has a dedicated beachfront bed with a picnic table for the entire day. For us, this travel hack has been a huge win for our family, and we think it could be for yours too!

Island Village at Beaches Negril

Island Village at Beaches Negril is located on the western end of the resort and neighbors the Pirates Island Waterpark. The Santa Cruz buildings are here, along with the Firesky Reserve Villas which are the only rooms at Beaches Negril with a private pool.

The Santa Cruz buildings sit slightly back from the beach, but the beach is a short walk, and some of the upper-floor rooms have nice ocean views. What you get when staying here vs. Calypso Cove is its proximity to the waterpark. Island Village is also where the new Kids Club is located. Registration is required for the Kids Club at Beaches Negril, so on your first visit bring their passports.

Not Sure Which Village Is Right for Your Family?

As parents and travel professionals, we recommend Reggaeville or Island Village for most families for the central access and Kids Club, but the real answer depends on how your family wants to spend their time away, and that’s a big part of the conversation we’ll have before you decide on where to be.

Contact us directly, and we’ll give you a specific recommendation based on your group or family size, the ages of your children, your room budget, and your travel dates.
