Here’s the honest answer most travel blogs won’t give you: Club Level is the right call for most couples at most resorts. Butler Level is worth the premium at specific properties, for specific trip types, and could be the wrong call if you’re at a resort where chair reservations don’t matter as much and you’re OK to handle some of the logistics rather than have then handled by your butler.
After booking over 2,000 Sandals and Beaches vacations, into both categories across all 17 Sandals resorts. Our internal data shows 57% book Butler, 33% Club and 10% Sandals Luxury, but that split doesn’t mean Butler is the default right answer.
It means that for milestone trips and honeymoons, our clients tend to lean towards Butler service.
For anniversary trips, long-weekend escapes, and repeat guests who know the properties, Club Level is the pick almost every time.

Expert Travel Tip:
If you’re on the fence about whether or not to book Sandals Club level vs. Sandals Butler level, one of our most popular travel hacks for our clients committed to Club Level is this… Many Sandals resorts, like Sandals Dunn’s River, offer cabana rentals for around $100.00 each. If you book this service, it starts around 9:00am and goes through 4pm, offering you all the same perks that a guest with butler service receives. Make this booking upon arrival and pick the days and locations you want.
| Feature | Club Level | Butler Level | 2026 Updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Room Service Hours | 7am–10pm | 24/7 | New Club swim-ups at Sandals Dunn's River and Sandals Saint Vincent now get enhanced morning menus. |
| Concierge / Butler Access | Concierge team | Dedicated, professionally trained butlers | Sandals Royal Barbados is experimenting with chair reservation times for Butler guests. |
| Beach / Pool Chair Reservations | No guaranteed spots | Reserved spots (varies by resort) | Sandals Saint Vincent butlers get the best chairs. Sandals Dunn’s River is more competitive for non-Butler guests. |
| Mini-Bar | Beer, wine, soda, basic spirits | Top-shelf liquors + custom requests | Sandals Saint Vincent and Sandals Grenada Butler suites feature premium spirits of your choice. |
| Transfers | Standard transfers | Some suites include private luxury transfers | Sandals Saint Vincent Butler rooms include water transfers to and from the airport. |
| Privacy Level | High (no daily service interruptions) | Variable (you control Butler interaction) | Preference sheets are emphasized for better boundary setting. |
| Price Range | $$–$$$ | $$$–$$$$ | Sandals Ochi and Sandals Royal Plantation remain the most affordable Butler resort entry points. |
| Best For | Couples wanting perks and better rooms without constant attention and personalization | Milestones, honeymoons, and travelers who want the easiest, most service-focused trip | New resort features may shift the value decision depending on the property. |
Think of Club Level as the value-luxury middle ground, best for couples who want better rooms with enhanced services without feeling ‘waited on.’ If you’re trying to decide whether that tradeoff makes sense for your trip budget, see our guide on how much it costs to go to Sandals.
Butler is full-service luxury: perfect if you want every detail handled, or if you’re at a resort where chair reservations and priority dining make a big difference. Dan, our client, decided to go with butler service and left this review for us:
“Jonathan with Rivage Travel did a remarkable job setting up our 45th Wedding Anniversary trip to Sandals Resort in St. Vincent. They even threw in a candlelight dinner and booked our flights. St. Vincent is a beautiful island with wonderful people.
The resort is something special. My wife kept referring to it as her Wisteria Lane. Food was fantastic, butler service was great and the spa time was exceptional. Thanks Rivage Travel!”
Club Level is Sandals middle tier: better rooms, a private lounge, limited room service, and concierge access — without the 24/7 dedicated staff of Butler.
Where Club Level Is the Right Call:
At compact resorts like Sandals Dunn’s River or Sandals Negril, the resorts are small enough that you’re never far from a bar, a restaurant, or the beach. Chair competition is lower, everything is walkable, and you won’t feel like you’re missing out by not having a Butler. The Club suite upgrade (better room, lounge access) gives you a better experience for significantly less money.
At medium-sized resorts like Sandals Grenada, Sandals Antigua, and Sandals Royal Bahamian, Club Level works well for couples who know what they want and don’t need a team assisting with their day-to-day needs. The lounge is a genuine perk, and the room upgrade is real.
Where Club Level Starts to Feel Like a Miss:
At large, sprawling resorts like Sandals South Coast and Sandals Royal Barbados, chair competition is a thing, especially during peak weeks. Without a Butler, you’re waking up super early sometimes to claim beach chairs or renting a cabana (around $100/day). If you’re traveling in peak season to a large property, the Butler premium starts to pay for itself.
Butler Level is Sandals premium top level tier. You get a dedicated butler team assigned to your room for the duration of your stay. They handle restaurant reservations, save your beach and pool chairs, deliver food and drinks anywhere on property, unpack your luggage if you want, and offer 24/7 room service.
Where Butler Level changes your trip:
Large, high-demand resorts — big impact. At Sandals South Coast, Sandals Royal Barbados, and Sandals Barbados, the resort footprint is large and pool/beach chair competition during peak season is real. Butler guests get reserved chairs at prime locations. Without that reservation, you’re setting an alarm for 7 AM to claim spots. At these properties, the Butler premium is functionally paying for convenience that matters every single day of your trip.
Peak season at any resort — meaningful impact. When a resort is running at full capacity, Butler service functions as a VIP bypass system. Restaurant bookings that aren’t available to standard guests get made. Chair spots that don’t exist for Club guests get held. The impact scales with how busy the resort is.
Milestone trips — worth it. Honeymoons, anniversary trips, 50th birthdays. When the occasion calls for the highest-touch experience, Butler delivers it. Pre-arrival communication with your butler team, personalized welcome setups, private dinners arranged without you lifting a finger — this is what the premium is paying for.
Where Butler Level is genuinely oversold:
Compact resorts — limited impact. At Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals Negril, and Sandals Ochi, the property is small. Everything is close. Chair competition is lower. The Butler room itself is typically nicer, but the service advantage is much smaller than at a sprawling resort. If budget matters, Club Level at these properties delivers close to the same daily experience for meaningfully less money.
Independent travelers. If you’re the type who makes your own restaurant reservations, doesn’t want your butler interrupting your morning, and would rather figure things out yourself — Club Level suits your style better. Butler service is most valuable when you actually use it.
Before choosing, what kind of experience do you want?
Let those answers guide your selection. Most of our clients book club or butler level so you’re already on the right path. 🙂
This is where the decision actually gets made. The right level depends as much on the property as it does on your travel style.
Jamaica
Sandals Dunn’s River: Club Level is the call. The resort is compact, modern, and the newest property in Jamaica. Chair competition is low, everything is walkable, and the Club swim-up suites are some of the best options at this price point. Save the Butler premium for a larger property.
Sandals Montego Bay: Either works, but Club Level gives you the most value. The property is small, airlift is easy from most U.S. cities, and the Beachfront Butler Suites are always a great find on a 777 week. If it’s a honeymoon or milestone, splurge on the butler experience with a Beachfront Butler Suite with Soaking Tub.
Sandals South Coast: Book Butler Level… This is a large resort with multiple pool areas and beach sections. Chair reservations matter here, especially in peak season. The Long Beach Swim-Up Club Suite is excellent on a 777 deal, but if you’re here for a week in high season, Butler’s chair access pays for itself.
Sandals Negril: Club Level. Negril’s beach is the best in Jamaica. The resort experience is relaxed and mid-sized as compared to the other Sandals resorts. Chair competition is not as prevalent here, so Club Level is the right value decision.
St. Lucia
Sandals Regency La Toc: Butler Level for the Sunset Bluff category with private pool on the cliffside. The gap between Club and Butler at Sandals Regency La Toc is smaller than at other resorts, and the Butler Villa option is truly special.
Sandals Grande St. Lucian: Club Level for the beach and water sports experience. The location on its own peninsula means the beach is the amenity. It’s that good… Go for butler Level if you want the overwater bungalow or a private pool villa Rondoval category. Both levels are well-differentiated here.
Barbados
Sandals Royal Barbados: All room categories are either Club or Butler level. This is the only property where the decision is much easier, so please choose based on your budget. Butler is worth it here, given the size of the resort and the chair reservation benefits. Starting price from $333/person/night for Club.
Sandals Barbados: Connected with Sandals Royal Barbados with shared amenities. Club Level works well here. You get the scale benefits without paying full Butler pricing at both properties. Note, though, that this is a shared beach, so having a butler here still has its advantages and is usually slightly less expensive than Sandals Royal Barbados.
Grenada
Sandals Grenada: Club Level for beachfront rooms. The beach access is private, and all Club rooms here are close to the water. Go for Butler levels with the Rondovals and SkyPool categories only. Those specific room types justify the prices because of their design and privacy, not because of chair access.
Curaçao
Sandals Royal Curaçao: Club Level offers oceanfront and beachfront room options. Butler Level gets you the Awa Bungalows.
Saint Vincent
Sandals Saint Vincent: Butler Level wins here vs club level. Butler guests receive private water transfers to and from the airport, which is a special arrival experience given the island’s layout. Club Level is available with swim-up options, but the Butler water transfer alone changes how you experience the resort. For a milestone trip, this property with Butler service is hard to beat in 2026.
Bahamas
Sandals Royal Bahamian: Club Level is the play here… The West Bay Swim-Up Club Junior Suite on a 777 week is one of the best deals you’ll find. The private offshore island (Sandals Cay) is accessible at all levels as well. Butler Level is worth it if you want the top-floor ocean view suites and the personalized services of your butler.
Antigua
Sandals Grande Antigua: Club Level. The beach is one of the best, and the chair competition is more relaxed. Club Level is the right call unless you’re celebrating a milestone.
In our personal experience, I wouldn’t necessarily call this a common worry, but we hear from our clients all of the time who want to make sure they get this right. And we get it… This is a big expense. So let’s highlight some of these to help put you at ease.
1
At large resorts in peak season, this is a real problem for Club Level and Sandals Luxury level guests. Your options: book Butler Level (reserved chairs), rent a cabana at around $100/day (daytime Butler-equivalent service), or book a compact resort where chair competition isn't as much of an issue. Don't choose a large resort in peak season expecting to get the best chairs without Butler.
2
Depends on how you travel. If you'll use the chair reservations, the 24/7 room service, enjoy the room, and the priority dining, yes - especially at a large resort in peak season. If you're the type who makes your own reservations, prefers minimal interruptions, and spends most of your day at the beach rather than in your suite, Club Level and sometimes Luxury Level is the smarter financial decision.
3
No. The preference sheet you complete before arrival tells your team how present or invisible you want them to be. Most clients who worry about this end up wishing they'd done Butler sooner. The team is professional, trained to read cues, and won't hover unless you want them to.
4
Pick the resort location first, then the room level. The location decision matters more than the service tier. Once you've selected the right resort, contact us — we'll tell you whether the specific price gap at your exact dates justifies going with butler service, and we'll monitor the 777 rotation to see if it comes up, after you book.
5
If you're comparing all three tiers, Luxury, Club, and Butler, the move from Luxury to Club Level is usually worth it. The price gap is smaller than Club to Butler, and you gain room service, lounge access, and a better room category. Most first-time Sandals guests who book Luxury wish they'd booked Club level, which is a decision that is almost always worth the difference.
Still unsure? Don’t guess. Contact us or try our Sandals Price Match Calculator to find the right Sandals resort for your interests and budget.
Choose Club level for privacy and flexibility; Butler for milestones and zero logistics with the highest level of personalization. Both deliver the Sandals luxury experience; you just need the right resort and room.
