Set on a 500-acre nature preserve in Jamaica’s southern countryside, this Sandals South Coast features a private cove, offering exclusivity and breathtaking surroundings that enhance your luxury experience.

What the Private Island Experience Looks Like Now:
The private island, Sandals Cay, has always been one of the defining features of this resort. Before the renovation, it had a Thai restaurant and basic beach amenities. What reopens in December 2026 will be totally different and on a much higher level.
As part of the post-Melissa investment of $200M and Sandals 2.0 expansion, Sandals Caribbean Cay will debut with the addition of the Parisol Beach Club directly on the island, which will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a swim-up pool bar and full beach service. There’s also a redesigned pool, beachfront palapas, and a fitness center with panoramic ocean views, all island-side.
What this means if you’re staying in a Sandals Overwater Bungalow (OWB) or Sandals Overwater Villa (OWV): you now have full-service dining, a swim-up bar, and a beach club accessible directly from your bungalow, without crossing back to the main resort at all.
Our take: The pre-renovation island was a nice add to the Sandals experience but lacked some amenities. The post-renovation Sandals Cay will fill that gap. If you’ve read older reviews of Sandals Royal Caribbean and dismissed it for having limited island amenities, it’s worth a second look.

Over-Water Private Island Butler Honeymoon Bungalow (OWB)
The entry-level overwater category. Includes glass floor panels, vaulted ceilings, a walk-in rain shower, Tranquility Soaking Tub for two, over-water hammock, outdoor shower, in-room bar, private sundeck, and 24-hour butler service. No private pool.
Over-the-Water Private Island Butler Villa with Infinity Pool (OWV)
The highest level. Everything in the OWB, plus a private infinity pool on your deck, a separate living area, a full bathroom with both a soaking tub and a separate shower, and floating water hammocks rather than a fixed over-water hammock.
Guests booked in either category arrive by private water taxi and include BMW airport transfers from MBJ.
The Sandals Overwater Villa (OWV) is priced approximately $300–$500 more per couple per night depending on season.
Our take: If budget allows, book the OWV. The private infinity pool over the ocean is the feature most clients say they’d pay for again. If you’re comparing OWB pricing between the two resorts, South Coast’s bungalows are larger (approximately 1,100 sq ft) and have no boat transfer.

Can I upgrade when I arrive? Only if there’s availability, which is rare. These bungalows sell out months in advance.
Can I see sea life like dolphins or turtles? Occasionally, though more likely, you’ll spot colorful reef fish or rays.

While there is no set amount, our general advice for those who’ve had a great butler experience is in the range of $30.00 – $40, per butler, per day. It can be given to them at the end of your stay and paid in cash.
For non-butler staff (restaurant servers, bartenders, spa therapists), the included gratuity covers everything. You don’t need to tip additionally, and there’s no awkward moment at the end of a meal.

If you’re celebrating something big, a honeymoon, an anniversary, or just a much-needed reset, they’re absolutely worth it. What makes them special is the full experience: your own private deck over turquoise water, a butler who knows your favorite drink, champagne at sunset, and a personalized in-room breakfast.
2. Can we snorkel right off our deck at South Coast?
100%.. Yes, the water beneath the South Coast bungalows is calm and shallow, and you can enter directly from your deck. That said, the best snorkeling at South Coast is off the beach or via the included boat excursions. Snorkeling gear is included at no charge. At Sandals Caribbean Cay, snorkeling from the bungalow deck is possible, but the island’s position means clearer conditions are typically found on the windward side, and your butler can point you to the right spot.
3. Which resort has better food, Sandals South Coast or Sandals Caribbean Cay?
South Coast has nine restaurants across three villages. Sandals Caribbean Cay reopens in December 2026 with at least nine restaurants of its own, including new concepts like Suppa (Jamaican comfort food), The Strand beach grill, and Parisol on the island, plus complimentary shuttle access to Sandals Montego Bay. On paper, Sandals Caribbean Cay guests have access to the most dining options of any Sandals resort in Jamaica.
4. Is there a way to guarantee the bungalow with the best view?
Not through Sandals directly. Specific unit assignments aren’t guaranteed at booking. But this is one of the real advantages of booking through an advisor. We know the layout at both resorts, which units sit at the end of the pier (better privacy, no foot traffic), which face the best sunset angle, and which are closest to noise sources you’d want to avoid. We make the request directly and follow up. We can’t promise a specific number, but our clients consistently tend to receive better assignments than those who book direct.
5. Can we upgrade to an overwater bungalow after we arrive?
We wouldn’t recommend it. Overwater inventory is limited at both resorts: 12 units at Sandals South Coast and 17 combined (OWB + OWV) at Sandals Caribbean Cay, and it sells out months ahead of peak dates. Upgrades do occasionally happen, but we’ve never seen it happen reliably for clients who planned on it. If you’re considering an OWB, book it from the start.
