If you’ve stayed at other all-inclusive resorts throughout the Caribbean, you’re probably very familiar with their tipping policies. You arrive at the resort with cash on hand, and you’re tipping servers, bartenders, room attendants, beach servers, and the list goes on. It can get exhausting, especially living in the tipping culture that exists today.
Sandals and Beaches resorts are totally different, as everything is included, so there is no need to tip as you enjoy your vacation experience.
Sandals and Beaches Resorts Official Tipping Policy
Sandals does not allow tipping resort employees. There are, however, two exceptions: butlers and spa therapists. Yes, this includes Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados, where local law prohibits employers from penalizing staff for accepting tips. We’ve had clients assume that means tipping is acceptable there, and while they won’t get in trouble for receiving tips, Sandals discourages the practice.
Now, tour operators and transfer drivers are not Sandals employees, so we do recommend tipping them. For the drivers taking you to the resort, a $5.00 or $10.00 bill is greatly appreciated.

“We've stayed at every Sandals and Beaches resort. The best thing you can do for the staff is to skip the cash. Instead, write the review and use their name as that's what the system rewards.”
When you tip the bartender or the housekeeper, many others are involved in that service. The bar backs who keep the ice stocked, those who work in the kitchen but not on the dining side, or those who are washing the linens
To solve this while improving the guest experience, Sandals created a bonus pool specifically for this. It’s not a tip pool; the money doesn’t come from what guests hand over directly. Instead, it comes from a portion of what guests pay to stay at the resort. Sandals distributes it based on occupancy, overall property reviews, and other performance factors. We’ve spoken with general managers who’ve told us that in good years, employees can nearly double their base pay through this pool.
On top of that, Sandals pays above the local prevailing wage in every market it operates in. These are coveted jobs in the Caribbean, owned by the Stewart family, who are from the Caribbean, which means they’re looking out for their employees. Employees don’t take the stability, training, and career paths Sandals and Beaches offer lightly.
Over the years, we’ve met guests who thought the no-tipping policy was loosely enforced. Unfortunately, it’s not…
We know of employees at two different resorts who received disciplinary action for accepting tips. The rules require employees to report any tips received and turn them in during their shift. Those tips go to the Sandals Foundation, which is win-win, but we recommend donating directly to the Sandals Foundation instead.
When you slip someone a tip, you think you’re doing something kind. What you may actually be doing is putting them in a position they can’t afford to be in. So while the intentions are good, as guests, it’s important that we look out for their well-being. If you want to recognize their contributions, please give feedback through Gina, directly to the management teams, or in your trip reviews.
At Sandals and Beaches resorts, butlers and spa therapists are excluded from the no-tipping policy because their work is so individualized that the bonus pool is not the best substitute for direct recognition.
For spa services, a 12.5% service charge is automatically added to the cost of your treatment. That goes to the spa staff collectively but not specifically to your therapist. We tip our therapists above that amount in cash, handed directly to them after the service, or it can be added as a separate line item on your receipt after you finish your treatment.
For butlers, most guests tip at the end of the stay rather than daily. Either approach is totally fine. One practical note: tip in cash rather than adding it to your room at the end of your stay. When it goes through the billing system, there’s a delay before the employee actually receives it, and we’ve heard that those tips are calculated differently due to taxes and processing fees on those charges.
So since we’re on the topic of tipping your butler, this is one of the hottest topics and for 2026, the average amount is around $25 – $40.00 USD per butler per day. When we travel, I personally budget around $80 – $100 per day for tips and will tip out our butler team at the end of my stay, which would be my last evening, and then the daytime butler as I depart.
If, for some reason, you miss your butler, an envelope can be requested from the front desk, and you can put that amount in there for the manager to pass it along.
Sandals and Beaches resorts recognition system rewards employees for being named.
Every Sandals and Beaches resorts reads TripAdvisor reviews. Employees are recognized when their names appear in positive feedback, so we make a point of collecting names throughout every stay, including everyone who made a difference, and putting them in our reviews when we get home.
On one trip, we happened to be on property for a competition Sandals was running across all their resorts. When they announced the winner, it was revealed to be an all-expenses-paid trip for her and her family to any Sandals or Beaches property. Across all the resorts, fifteen employees won that kind of trip from that one contest.
So, in conclusion, the recognition system works, and as guests, we don’t need to work around it. In fact, we can be the reason someone is recognized.
You can also recognize great service on property. Tell a manager in person or use Gina (the on-property concierge chat). Personally, our preference is always written rather than verbal, because we want the record to exist.
Some resorts have made exceptions for specific roles, including cabana attendants at certain properties and servers at candlelight dinners. These exceptions exist at some locations and not others. If you’re unsure whether someone can accept a tip, please ask a manager directly before you do it.
While no system is perfect, we feel that Sandals approach is more thoughtful than what most all-inclusives have in place. Understanding it means you can relax, enjoy the services that Sandals and Beaches have to offer, and recognize the people who made your trip without putting anyone at risk.
