Beaches Negril is located on the widest stretch of Negril’s Seven Mile Beach in Jamaica, and after nine stays at this amazing resort, Angela and I know it as well as any property in the Beaches portfolio. It’s where we’re watching our children grow up, and the staff working here have become people we look forward to seeing year after year. After your first trip, it feels like you’re coming home. We love it, and we think you’re going to love it, too! Let me tell you why.
Unlike Beaches Turks and Caicos, Beaches Negril is a smaller resort with only 197 rooms across 20 acres. This size makes it more boutique in scale, which is exactly what makes it work for families who want something that is easy to get around. Especially for those traveling with small children.
Beaches Negril has more than 1,500 feet of beachfront access in Long Bay on the famous Seven Mile Beach. The water is calm, the beach is wide, and the Pirates Island Water Park is right on the beach with a lazy river and age-specific slides starting at two years old. For us, this has been one of the highlights, as your kids can go from the ocean to the slides to the pool and back without a shuttle or a ten-minute walk.
Hi! We’re Jonathan and Angela Patton, the Sandals Chairman’s Royal Club Diamond Elite advisory team behind Rivage Travel and Best Caribbean Resorts. We’ve booked over 2,800 Sandals and Beaches vacations and specialize exclusively in the Sandals and Beaches resort brand. Recognized by Sandals Resorts International as the #1 Sandals travel agency in the United States.
Size and layout. Beaches Negril has only 197 rooms and is spread across 20 acres, which is intentionally compact compared to Beaches Turks and Caicos. Families who may have been overwhelmed at larger resorts seem to find this resort size easier to manage, particularly with younger kids, as you can walk from one end of the resort to the other in less than ten minutes.
BONUS for Adults: Sandals Negril. This is something most families do not know before they book: guests at Beaches Negril have access to the nearby adults-only Sandals Negril. It is an easy 25-minute walk up the beach or a quick five-minute cab ride that’ll cost you around $20.00 each way. As parents, we love our kids and enjoy spending time with them, but with Sandals Negril right up the beach, you can spend an afternoon or evening at Sandals, with different restaurants and a different atmosphere, while the kids are fully cared for and entertained in camp. This is a great way to compare Beaches to Sandals and for couples traveling with family, or for adults who want some separation from the family scene, this access is a real bonus, and no other Beaches resort offers this.
Certified Autism Center. Beaches Negril is an Advanced Certified Autism Center through IBCCES, and was the first resort company in the world to complete this certification. Every staff member receives competency training in sensory awareness, motor skills, social skills, communication, and emotional awareness. The resort has a dedicated sensory guide mapping low-stimulation zones, quiet areas, and sensory ratings for every restaurant, pool, and activity area. If needed, the Beaches Buddy service provides pre-booked, one-on-one certified private childcare. For families traveling with children who have autism or sensory sensitivities, Beaches Negril and Beaches Turks and Caicos are the best resort options in the Caribbean.
Sesame Street programming. Camp Sesame runs daily character appearances, stage shows, and activities, including the Sesame Street Parade on Thursday evenings. Elmo breakfasts are available on Mondays and Fridays by reservation and have always been a highlight for our family. They do come at an extra cost of $… but we feel the memories and photos are worth it.
Kids Camp hours. The camp runs 9am to 9pm daily, with a break from 5pm to 6pm for cleaning. Age groups cover infants from 0-24 months through teens aged 11-17. Reservations are required and made directly with the camp after arrival. When checking your child in for the first time, make sure to have your passports handy as they need them to complete the registration. You’ll only need to do this once.
Beachfront dining, serving upscale Italian food.
Open-air Mexican offering a laid-back lunch and open for dinner
Soy is the place for Japanese appetizers, sake, and all the rolls you want!
Handmade pizzas served steps from the beach
Beaches Negril has 11 restaurants and 5 bars. Here are a few things to know before you go:
Kimonos requires a reservation and is a fun and active teppanyaki dining experience. It’s worth booking at least once. The Mill is the main all-day restaurant serving international cuisine for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, no reservations required, and the cuisines rotate daily, so you’ll never be bored. Stella and Yaku are the two newest dining options and require reservations for dinner, so make sure to book these 14 days prior to arrival via the Sandals app or upon check-in with your concierge, culinary desk, or butler.
Aside from the Mill buffet, The Jerk Shack is the easiest lunch to get on property. Grab a table, order jerk chicken, and check out those laid-back Jamaican beach vibes. The food trucks, Chick ‘N’ Dippers and Green Machine, run midday and are a great quick option when you do not want to sit down.
For families with dietary restrictions, the Culinary Concierge Desk opens daily from 9am to 5pm. They work directly with executive chefs to prepare custom menus, including allergy, gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. While each restaurant is now sensitive to these requirements, if you find that you’d appreciate a more hands-on approach, speak with the culinary desk located just outside the main lobby as early as possible after arrival.
Room service is available 24 hours, but only in butler-serviced accommodations.
Beaches Negril has 29 room categories across three villages.
Calypso Cove is the oceanfront village and home to the Eventide Penthouse Collection, the resort’s newest, largest, and highest level accommodations. The Eventide Penthouse Four Bedroom Butler Walkout (4BW) sleeps 18 guests and is the largest single room in the Beaches portfolio. If you are booking a multi-family trip or a large extended family vacation, this is our top recommendation. Contact us for more details.
Island Village is where the Firesky Reserve Villa is located, a three-story, four-bedroom private villa with its own pool, sleeping up to 10 guests. It is the only room at Beaches Negril with a private pool. Also in Island Village: the Santa Cruz buildings, which house concierge and luxury room categories.
Reggaeville features the Savannah buildings, with butler-suite options on the first floor and concierge and standard rooms on the upper floors. Views here are of the garden and partial ocean, rather than full beachfront.
The room level layout is best outlined this way: Butler Elite rooms include 24-hour room service, in-room VIP check-in, a fully stocked in-room bar, and a dedicated butler team. Concierge rooms include Concierge access, preferred check-in with champagne on arrival, and an in-suite bar. Luxury categories are standard inclusions with no dedicated service team. If you want to know more about the complete Beaches Negril experience, read all about it in our complete review.
Getting there. Beaches Negril is 81km (50 miles) from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Complimentary round-trip transfers are included from both Sangster (MBJ) and Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Kingston. The drive from MBJ is approximately 90 minutes, depending on traffic. The drive is scenic, but the roads are not in the best shape. If you’re thinking a private transfer is better for your family, let us know, as O’Shane from O’Shane Tours always takes care of our clients and our family when traveling to Jamaica. Contact us for more information.
Tipping. Beaches Negril has a strict no-tipping policy with four exceptions: butlers, cabana concierges, Red Lane Spa relaxation specialists, and private airport transportation drivers. Budget for the butler gratuity if you are booking a butler room; it is not mandatory, but is standard practice, and we recommend $30-$40+ USD per butler per day.
Beach access. 1,530 feet of white sand, and it is very shallow. You can be 50ft off the beach and still just be at waist level, so this is a great option for families with young children. The beach is widest in front of Calypso Cove, which is one reason the Eventide walkout rooms book so far in advance.
Pools. Three freshwater pools and three whirlpools. The main pool is adjacent to the water park. The Mill Pool and Piazza Pool offer alternatives. This is also where a lot of the evening activities take place.
Fitness center. Open 24 hours. Air-conditioned, Life Fitness equipment.
Teens. The Trench Town Teen Center runs 10am-5pm and reopens 6pm-9pm. Club Liquid nightclub opens at 10pm for tweens and teens (10pm-11pm), then adults only from 11pm-1am.
Weekly events. Each night has a themed event: Sunday is Beaches Live, Monday is Jamaica Day, Tuesday is Broadway Review, Wednesday is Love Hop (silent headphone party), Thursday is Carnival Beach Party with the Sesame Street Parade, Friday is the Aroquian Water Show, and Saturday is Luminescent Pool Party.
Beaches Negril fits best for families who want a resort that is not too big and just the right size. It’s great for families traveling with children under 8, where Sesame Street programming is fully appreciated; families with children who have autism or sensory needs; multi-family groups booking the Eventide Penthouse or Firesky Villa; and adult couples who want Beaches-level family infrastructure with the option to visit Sandals Negril for adult time.
It is not the right fit for families who want a mega resort with many room options to choose from, the most restaurants, or the largest water park. Beaches Turks and Caicos covers all three of those on a larger scale.
If you are not sure which Beaches property fits your family, that is the conversation we have with clients before anything gets booked.
Angela and I have stayed at Beaches Negril nine times and counting. We know which rooms have the best beach access, which Eventide floor is quietest, when to book Kimonos, and how to set up a multi-family trip across the room categories. We specialize exclusively in Sandals and Beaches resorts, and we do not charge fees for our services.
We know which room is worth the upgrade, which resort matches your style, and which promotions can be stacked. We have four consecutive years as Diamond Elite, Sandals highest advisor tier, and will use our experience to make sure you get the most out of your time away!

Yes, and it’s one of the best properties specifically for young kids. The Pirates Island Water Park has age-specific slides starting at two years old, Kids Camp runs from infants through age 17, and the resort’s compact layout means you’re never far from the beach, pools, or dining. The Sesame Street entertainment runs daily with character appearances, stage shows, and a Thursday parade. If your kids are in that age range, it’s a real draw, not just a marketing feature.
Beaches Negril is approximately 50 miles from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, the airport most US guests fly into. Plan for a 90-minute drive depending on traffic. Complimentary round-trip transfers are included from both Sangster and Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston. If you want to skip the standard shuttle, private transfers are available and we’ll help arrange them.
Yes. Sandals Negril is the adults-only Sandals property near Beaches Negril, accessible by a roughly 25-minute walk along Seven Mile Beach or a short cab ride. Beaches Negril guests have full access. For couples traveling with family, or parents who want a few hours of adult atmosphere while kids are in camp, this cross-access is one of the most underused advantages of booking this property. No other Beaches resort offers this.
Beaches Negril is the smaller, more intimate property versus Beaches Turks and Caicos which is larger with more restaurants, room categories, and a bigger water park. Negril is our top pick on beach quality, ease of navigation, and the Sandals Negril cross-access. Turks and Caicos is our pick for village options and room selection depth. For first-time Beaches families with young children who want a manageable resort on a world-class beach, Negril is the way to go.
Jamaica’s weather is consistent year-round, so there’s no bad month to visit Beaches Negril from a climate standpoint. The main variables are pricing and crowds. Peak season runs mid-December through April and summer, when US school schedules drive demand, rates are highest, and concierge and butler rooms book out fastest. Shoulder season (May, June, early December) tends to offer the same experience at lower rates with more room category availability. Hurricane season runs from June through November, with September and October carrying the highest statistical risk, though major impacts on Negril are relatively rare.
