For all travelers, we recommend booking the departure lounge as you’ll be spending at least an hour or two for your flight. The full package price is $85.00 per person and includes, arrival service and the departure lounge with free drinks and food.

Common Mistakes People Make
Many guests fall into the trap of booking based on photos alone, and we get it. Sometimes that’s what you have to work with, but without fully considering factors such as distance from the airport (Montego Bay is 5 minutes, Ocho Rios can be over 2 hours), you could be leaving some important aspects of your time away, unconsidered.
That is where our expertise comes into play. Book a free consultation with Best Caribbean Resorts and we’ll help you navigate the nuances of planning a Caribbean getaway to Sandals!
Best For: Sandals 2.0 featuring a contemporary, upscale experience.
Sandals Dunn’s River is the newest and most modern Sandals resort in Jamaica, featuring the best of Sandals 2.0 modernization philosophy.
Here, you’ll find brand new SkyPool Suites (balcony-level infinity pools with ocean views), Coyaba Rondovals (private soaking tubs and swim-up access), and select Rondovals with rooftops featuring tranquility soaking tubs and a guided tour of the night sky with your own telescope.
Sandals Dunn’s River is forward-thinking, with restaurants like Edessa (Greek) and Zuka (Central American). Dress code is resort casual, but the experiences are upscale and the presentations are world-class.
The resort is located just minutes from the iconic Dunn’s River Falls, a must-see attraction and a true highlight for guests wanting to experience an excursion off-resort.
As a bonus… exchange privileges with nearby Sandals Ochi and Sandals Royal Plantation resorts are included.
Best For: Couples looking for privacy and something more remote.
Sandals South Coast is located on a 500-acre private nature preserve along one of the more remote coastlines. This is an expansive resort, run by one of our favorite general managers.
The team cares about the guest experience, and even when the resort is full, it doesn’t feel that way.
Sandals South Coast also features overwater bungalows formed in a heart-shaped configuration and is currently only one of two Sandals resorts in Jamaica offering this level of service, so this remains one of our favorite locations for milestone celebrations.
Because of its location, it has the longest transfer time from Montego Bay, at about 90 minutes.
Note: As of February 2026, Sandals South Coast is currently closed for repairs and renovations due to damage it received during Hurricane Melissa. The expected opening date for Sandals South Coast is currently May/June 2026, and it will reopen as a completely reimagined resort, brought up to Sandals 2.0 standards.
Best For: Couples who want great entertainment, an active social scene and the shortest airport transfer.
Sandals Montego Bay is the original Sandals resort — and it still carries that flagship energy. Located just 5 minutes from the Sangster Montego Bay airport, it offers the shortest transfer time of any Sandals in Jamaica, making it great for couples taking a short trip or for those who want to start their vacation right away, and who doesn’t want that! 🙂
The beach at Sandals Montego Bay is private, with calm water and plenty of loungers. The vibe is social and active, especially around the main pool and swim-up bar. You’ll find multiple restaurants including a Butches Chop House, beachside dining, and a great nightlife scene.
Sandals Montego Bay is on the other side of the airport runway. You will see and hear some planes from time to time, but it’s never been much of an inconvenience.
Note: As of February 2026, Sandals Montego Bay is currently closed for repairs and renovations due to damage it received during Hurricane Melissa. The expected opening date for Sandals Montego Bay is currently May/June 2026, and will reopen as a completely reimagined resort with a new pool and dining options, while being brought up to Sandals 2.0 standards.
Best For: Anniversary celebrations and couples seeking a more intimate getaway.
Sandals Royal Caribbean is located just minutes from Sandals Montego Bay, but offers a completely different feel than Sandals Montego Bay. The standout feature here is its private offshore island, which is accessible by a dragon boat.
It’s also home to Jamaica’s overwater bungalows and villas. The overall atmosphere at Sandals Royal Caribbean is quieter and more refined, making it a favorite for anniversaries and honeymoons
Sandals Royal Caribbean is located just 10 minutes from (MBJ) and has historically been one of the quieter Sandals resorts with a very loyal following of clients.
Note: As of February 2026, Sandals Royal Caribbean is currently closed for repairs and renovations due to damage it received during Hurricane Melissa. The expected opening date for Sandals Royal Caribbean is currently May/June 2026, and will reopen as a completely new resort with a new pool, lobby, and new dining options. The plans are to bring this resort up to Sandals 2.0 standards.

Sandals Negril sits directly on the famed Seven Mile Beach, which is widely considered the best stretch of beach in Jamaica. We personally love Sandals Negril for its boutique vibes. It’s one of the smaller resorts in the Sandals portfolio, but it’s big on service, and you’ll find the most amazing sunsets here.
The vibe at Sandals Negril is more relaxed, which we love. While there are still plenty of dining and activity options available, the atmosphere is more laid-back than at something like Sandals Montego Bay. Many of our clients choose Sandals Negril purely for the beach quality alone and we think thats a smart decision.
Sandals Negril is approximately 75/90 minutes from the Montego Bay airport, which is a bit of a journey, but the reward of being there is worth it.
As a guest of Sandals Negril, you also have access to Beaches Negril, located just a brief 25-minute walk down the beach or a 5-minute taxi ride. We highly recommend visiting Beaches Negril’s Yaku (Peruvian) and Stella (beachfront Italian)
Best For: Couples who want an active social scene and are budget minded.
Sandals Ochi is the largest Sandals resort in Jamaica and offers more dining options than any other Sandals on the island. It’s known for its active atmosphere, golf, and an expansive list of room categories, making it one of the more accessible price points in Jamaica.
Sandals Ochi is spread across hillside and beachfront sections. You get 105 pools here with 16+ restaurants. It’s also home to the famed Rabbit Hole speakeasy, which is one of our favorite features.
Due to its size, guests of Sandals Ochi do not have access to Sandals Dunn’s River or Sandals Royal Plantation. As to its affordability, this is the best-priced Sandals resort, with rooms starting at just $200 per person, per night.
If you have any mobility restrictions, Sandals Dunn’s River would be a better option in Ocho Rios as Sandals Ochi is large with the butler village being separated by a road from the main part of the resort.
Best For: Couples who want butler service at a resort with the original Caribbean charm.
Located in Ocho Rios, Sandals Royal Plantation is the smallest and most boutique of the seven Jamaica properties. Every room includes butler service and offers an entry-level price point that is comparable to other Sandals resorts at the luxury level.
Sandals Royal Plantation has two private cove beaches and a cliffside restaurant, with amazing oceanviews.
Unlike the larger resorts, Sandals Royal Plantation emphasizes service over size and has one of the most loyal followings out of any Sandals resort in the portfolio. We love the General Manager here, and it’s easy to understand why this resort is so popular.
Sandals Royal Plantation has the only caviar bar in the Sandals portfolio.
Over the years, Jamaica has become a very close part of our lives, both in the friendships we’ve made and with the experiences that we’ve had here. We travel to Jamaica at least 5 times a year, and these opportunities, along with the feedback we’ve received from our clients, have given us a deep perspective on which Sandals resort stands out.
Here is our quick pick list based on extensive travels and time spent in this amazing country.

Maybe you’ve been comparing photos, watching YouTube videos, or reading conflicting opinions online.
Here’s the truth: every Sandals resort in Jamaica is great, but one or more be right for you, and that’s where we come in. We’ve personally visited every Sandals resort in Jamaica, and we’re here to help you pick the right resort.
Here’s how we help:
You’ll arrive at a resort that feels made for you, with the service that fits your personality. The vibe feels just right, and you’ll come home with no regrets… just incredible memories and the kind of peace you only get when you know you got it right the first time.
Tipping is not expected or permitted at Sandals (except for butlers and spa staff). This creates a no-pressure environment, which is something we appreciate about the Sandals resorts brand.
If you’re celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or once-in-a-lifetime trip, they absolutely are. But if your focus is food, excursions, or spa time, you might enjoy a Club or Butler suite just as much, and for less.
Royal Caribbean for peaceful romance, Dunn’s River for a modern wow factor, and Negril for sunset walks and beachfront intimacy. The best choice depends on your vibe as a couple.
No. Smoking (including cannabis) is prohibited in rooms and most public areas. Designated smoking zones exist, but Sandals maintains a clean-air policy on-site, even though Jamaica allows marijuana off-resort.
Montego Bay is closest to airport and excursions. Ocho Rios resorts (like Dunn’s River and Ochi) are near top attractions like the Blue Hole and river tubing. South Coast is the most remote, which is great for unplugging but limits off-site activities.
